Best Visas for when travelling to Canada in 2021

The type of visa you'll need before visiting Canada is entirely dependent on your intended purpose for traveling. If you just want to visit Canada, a tourist visa is a perfect choice. You will need to qualify for an International Experience Category (IEC) – also known as the Working Holiday Visa – if you want to help compensate for your vacation by traveling across Canada.

  1. CANADIAN TOURIST VISA

To travel across the Canadian border, all travelers must have a valid passport (or, in the case of children, an unabridged birth certificate), regardless of their country of origin.

When going through border or airport checkpoints, immigration and passport control officers must have an available page to stamp the passport.

A number of countries, including the EU and the United States, are excluded from applying for a Canada Tourist Visa; however, those who are not exempt must appear in person at the Canadian embassy in their home country. A biometric test is performed by an embassy official, and the travel papers that you must obtain and submit are checked for approval (generally over a 4-6 week waiting period). 1. WORKING HOLIDAY VISA

To apply for a Working Holiday Visa, you must:

Be a member of one of the IEC program's participating countries. You would be allowed to use a registered organization (RO) if your country does not participate in the IEC programs.

  • Be under the age of 35;
  • Be qualified to enter Canada;
  • Have an online profile on the IEC's official website;
  • Provide a $2,500 minimum to cover initial expenses;
  • Provide health insurance for the duration of the stay;
  • Have biometrics at a local Canadian consulate; and
  • Provide a valid passport or travel document.

You will be included in an applicant pool after you have finished your profile. When on a Canadian Working Holiday Visa, you may still be eligible for an open work permit. A flexible work permit will allow you to work for any designated employer in Canada (excluding Quebec). On an IEC Working Holiday Visa, you would not be allowed to bring your dependents with you.
